Earlier this year, I took part in a Discovery+ documentary called 'The Grindr Killer Scandal: A Faking It Special' which was released today. From June 2014 to September 2015, Stephen Port murdered at least four LGBTQ+ men in London before his arrest in October 2015.The police failed to link the fatalities despite the striking similarities between them, and inquests have since warned that these basic errors “could happen again” as the force has not learned enough from the case. It was a privilege to speak to the documentary's producers about my reporting on this in more detail, as well as how hom*ophobia may have hindered the investigation, and why the Met Police's failures have severely damaged the LGBTQ+ community's trust in them.

That they opted to charge him with perverting the course of justice as opposed to investigating him as being the killer. That is quite clearly a massive, massive failure by the police. I don't think that they cared enough about Anthony because they immediately stereotyped him as a gay drug user. So the police opted to not search Stephen Ports laptop, which would have been the key in uncovering all of the fake profiles and all of the history of the people that he had been speaking to, including Anstine Walgate. Now this was a significant failing because ultimately that was the key.

On the 30th of April every year, the Admiral Duncan pays tribute to the three lives that were lost and the 79 people who were seriously injured in the horrific nail bombing at the venue in 1999.25 years later, the bar is still one of London's most beloved LGBTQ+ spaces and its resilience speaks for itself.Earlier this week, I attended the memorial for Gay Star News and spoke to those there about what the Admiral Duncan means to the community.🏳️🌈🏳️🌈🏳️🌈
